Rockum presents an exclusive interview with Max Cavalera, the legendary vocalist and guitarist of Soulfly. In this conversation, journalist Gino Alache speaks with Cavalera about the band’s 13th studio album Chama, to be released on October 24, 2025 via Nuclear Blast.

Max Cavalera reflects on the meaning of Chama—a word that signifies both “flame” and “calling”—and explains how the album reconnects Soulfly with its tribal and spiritual roots while embracing a modern sound. He discusses the inspiration behind songs such as Storm The Gates and Indigenous Inquisition, the tradition of including instrumentals with Soulfly XIII, and the message carried by the closing track Chama.

The interview also explores the recording process at Platinum Underground Studio with John Aquilino, the production work of his son Zyon Cavalera alongside Arthur Rizk, and the special collaboration with Dino Cazares of Fear Factory. Beyond the music, Cavalera speaks about the importance of preserving indigenous voices, Soulfly’s enduring legacy since 1998, and what lies ahead for the band after the release of Chama.
