On the night of July 20th, Toronto vibrated with the overwhelming energy of 3 Inches of Blood, the legendary Canadian heavy metal band, which delivered an unforgettable concert at the iconic The Danforth Music Hall. From the first chords, it was clear that this would be a night to remember.
Formed in 1999, 3 Inches of Blood has been a pillar of heavy metal, known for their unique style and live energy. This concert was highly anticipated by fans eager to relive the classic tracks from one of their greatest albums, "Advance and Vanquish," released in 2004 and now celebrating its 20th anniversary.
The night began with the performance of Canadian metal band Raider, who gave a presentation worthy of the evening, igniting the darkness and the audience with tracks from their repertoire, especially their latest album released in 2023, titled "Trial By Chaos." In my opinion, they demonstrated solidity and confidence on stage, which led the audience to enjoy their performance.
At 9:20 pm, after an introduction through the speakers with AC/DC's "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)," an explosion of energy took over the stage as 3 Inches of Blood opened with their epic "Fear on the Bridge (Upon the Boiling Sea I)." The crowd responded with great enthusiasm, followed by "Wykydtron," another track from "Advance and Vanquish," where the attendees confirmed that the band was in excellent form.
They then moved on to the powerful 2007 album "Fire Up the Blades" with the track "God of the Cold White Silence." By this time, the audience knew that 3 Inches of Blood was as charged with energy as in their best days. Next, they delighted us with more from "Advance and Vanquish," delivering the potent "Destroy the Orcs," which made all the metalheads at The Danforth Music Hall go wild. As if that wasn't enough, they continued with "Axes of Evil," a track that revived many memories and feelings, especially for their longtime fans present in the venue. After that, another track from "Advance & Vanquish" appeared, the combative "Swordmaster."
They continued to treat us with iconic songs like "Trial of Champions," "Night Marauders," "Premonition of Pain," "Demons Blade," and "Forest King," all from their albums "Advance and Vanquish" and "Fire Up The Blades."
As the night progressed, 3 Inches of Blood reunited us with "Revenge Is a Vulture," another of their iconic songs, followed by "Rejoice in the Fires of Man's Demise" and the popular "Battles and Brotherhood" from their 2009 album "Here Waits Thy Doom."
Approaching the end, we knew the last three songs would be emblematic of this Canadian band: "Crazy Nights," "Deadly Sinners" (the anthem that made them known across several continents), and the colossal "The Goatriders Horde," closing this highly anticipated performance that lit up the city of Toronto on the night of July 20th, 2024, with energy and passion.
The atmosphere was electrifying, with a devoted audience that never stopped supporting the band. The venue was packed to the brim, reflecting the continued popularity of 3 Inches of Blood. The event production was flawless, with crisp sound and lighting that perfectly complemented the intensity of the music.
"It was an incredible experience, the band's energy is unmatched," commented one fan at the end of the concert. "Seeing them live is always a unique experience," added another attendee.
Cam Pipes, with his powerful voice, showed his love for metal with unwavering energy. The guitar solos by Justin Hagberg and Shane Clark were particularly impressive, while Nick Cates' bass and Ash Pearson's drums consolidated the overall strength that 3 Inches of Blood possesses. Every band member was at their best, demonstrating why they remain a force in heavy metal.
