Toronto alt rock band Neon Bloom channel vulnerability and strength in their new single Take ahead of their debut LP Begin Here launching August 15 with a special release show at Monarch Tavern
Neon Bloom steps into their next chapter and announces their forthcoming debut full-length album Begin Here with the release of their emotionally charged new single and music video "Take". The record arrives August 15 and on the night they celebrate with a release show at Monarch Tavern in Toronto, joined by Birds Eat My Body and Nix Correa. Show details: Click Here.
One of the band's most vulnerable and personal songs, "Take" was written over a decade ago by vocalist Jen Simpson and her ex-husband over a 24-hour period as she was experiencing an emotionally taxing health scare. Later, the song was adopted in Neon Bloom repertoire and became a live favourite with its raw and cathartic sound and was the first track they began recording in Toronto's Kensington Market.
The song's emotional core is brought to life through a powerful and personal music video co-directed by Jen and bandmate Fred Yurichuk. Marking Jen's directorial debut and rooted in Jen's own life, the video traces a harrowing chapter marked by her diagnosis with adult-onset epilepsy, followed by the demise of her marriage, and the disorienting loss of stability, housing, and medical clarity. More than an autobiographical visual accompaniment, the video offers a portrait of survival and resilience following Jen's rise from the ashes into a renewed and fulfilling life amidst the daily reality of disability.
Speaking of the video, Jen shares:
"It is meant to inspire those who may be going through a difficult time in their lives, while also acknowledging the very real struggle and trauma that can ensue when life changes direction in sudden and unexpected way.
Together with the previously released "Like A Lover," the new single offers a window into Begin Here, Neon Bloom's forthcoming debut. The album is dedicated to anyone feeling stuck, lost, or overwhelmed with its title serving as both a mantra and a reminder. No matter how fractured life may seem, you can always begin here and begin where you are. The eight tracks explore the complexities of contemporary existence - love and loss amidst war and environmental crisis, through reflections arising from intimate accounts of personal struggles that resonate with listeners on an emotional, universal level.
