In any serious conversation about European death metal, Vomitory remains a name that commands respect. Formed in 1989, the Swedish band carved its place in the genre through a relentless run of albums released between 1996 and 2011, helping define the ferocity and precision associated with Scandinavian extreme metal. After disbanding in 2013, their silence seemed definitive. Yet the story proved far from over.

The band returned to the stage in 2019 to celebrate their 30th anniversary, a move that quickly evolved into something more than nostalgia. Their comeback record All Heads Are Gonna Roll confirmed that Vomitory were not simply revisiting past glories but actively building a new era. Now, that second chapter continues to expand with the arrival of In Death Throes, their forthcoming full-length set for release on April 10 through Metal Blade Records.

Vomitory Return with In Death Throes

Rather than reinventing themselves, Vomitory have chosen to refine the brutality that has always defined them. According to drummer Tobias Gustafsson, the new album continues directly from the path established by its predecessor while pushing the intensity further. He explains that the unmistakable Vomitory sound remains intact, but with an added level of aggression and momentum. The presence of new guitarist Christian Fredriksson also brought fresh energy into the writing process, contributing to multiple tracks and adding subtle diversity without straying from the band’s core identity.

Recording sessions for In Death Throes took place across several studios in late 2025. Drums and vocals were captured at Leon Music Studios in Karlstad, Sweden, under the guidance of producer Rikard Löfgren, known for his previous work with the band and within the Scandinavian metal scene. Guitars and bass were tracked at Goff Studios, while mixing and mastering were handled by Lawrence Mackrory at Rorysound Studios in Uppsala, delivering a sound that balances crushing heaviness with clarity and depth.

Visually, the album continues Vomitory’s tradition of striking presentation. Artwork was created by Giannis Nakos of Remedy Art Design, whose work has appeared alongside numerous extreme metal acts, while layout duties were handled by Seiya Ogino. Together, the visual and sonic elements reinforce a release that stands as both continuation and statement.

The first single from the album, “For Gore And Country”, reflects the band’s enduring commitment to intensity. Built on relentless pacing and shifting dynamics, the track merges classic grind-driven passages with groove-laden sections that emphasize the physical energy of their sound. It serves as a clear reminder that, decades into their career, Vomitory remain firmly rooted in the essence of death metal while continuing to sharpen their attack.

To coincide with the release, Vomitory will return to the live stage across Europe alongside Hypocrisy, Abbath and Vreid, bringing their renewed momentum to audiences throughout the continent in what promises to be one of the most uncompromising extreme metal tours of the year.

While many bands rely on reinvention to remain relevant, Vomitory have built their longevity on consistency, resilience and an unwavering commitment to their sound. More than three decades after their formation, and years after what once seemed like a final farewell, they continue to prove that identity in extreme music is not defined by trends, but by endurance.
