The band celebrates the album’s arrival with the release of the official video for “Take a Pill,” marking the debut of the new rock project.
When musicians who have spent decades on some of rock’s biggest stages decide to start something new, the result rarely feels like a nostalgia project. Instead, it often becomes an opportunity to rediscover the simple reason they picked up their instruments in the first place: the thrill of playing loud, honest rock and roll.
That spirit fuels Close Enemies, the new band featuring musicians whose careers span Aerosmith, The Babys, Sheryl Crow, Don Henley, AC/DC and the Rolling Stones touring circles. The group has now officially stepped into the spotlight with the release of its self-titled debut album, out today via TLG|ROCK / Virgin Music Group.
Alongside the album’s arrival, the band has also unveiled the video for “Take A Pill”, a sharp and unapologetic track the group describes as “a modern rock gut check for a culture that would rather numb the pain than face it.” The song follows a series of singles that gradually introduced the project to listeners, including “More Than I Could Ever Need,” “Rain,” “Sweet Baby Jesus,” “Inside Out,” and “Sound Of A Train.”
At the center of the band is Tom Hamilton, the legendary bassist of Aerosmith, whose unmistakable groove helped shape some of the biggest rock anthems in American music history. Hamilton is joined by Tony Brock, known for his work with The Babys and Rod Stewart, guitarist Peter Stroud, longtime collaborator of Sheryl Crow and Don Henley, guitarist and engineer Trace Foster, who has worked closely with Aerosmith, AC/DC and the Rolling Stones, and vocalist Chasen Hampton, a singer who has been performing professionally since childhood.
Rather than chasing trends, Close Enemies feels like a gathering of musicians returning to the core of rock: friendship, instinct, and the shared language of guitars, drums and melody. The result is a record built on experience but driven by the excitement of starting a new chapter.
The Musicians Behind Close Enemies Speak
With years of experience behind them, the members of Close Enemies bring together a unique chemistry shaped by years on the road and in the studio. In a recent Q&A, the musicians reflected on how the band came together, the songs that define their debut album, and what fans can expect from their live shows.
Tom Hamilton on the band's chemistry
Tom Hamilton:
“I think we all had a yearning to put a band together with people who are easy to hang out with. Everybody in Close Enemies has a great combination of musical expertise and personal expertise. We all know how to be good band members.”
Tony Brock on the creative spark
Tony Brock:
“The magic we have when we get together is an indescribable feeling of creativity. Every one of us has played with incredible musicians, and that experience creates a lot of respect for each other’s ideas.”
Peter Stroud on how the band formed
Peter Stroud:
“Heck, the bass player from Aerosmith, drummer from The Babys, a singer from the Mickey Mouse Club… who would’ve thought we’d all come together? We set the rules from the start that everyone had total creative freedom.”
Trace Foster on writing “Rain”
Trace Foster:
“I had the original idea for ‘Rain.’ I presented it to the guys in the afternoon and by the evening we were already recording it. Each person contributed something and the song became more than I imagined.”
Chasen Hampton on the band’s live energy
Chasen Hampton:
“We’re a no click-track, no background tracks, old-school tube amp band. Plug and play. Five guys in a room making noise together and wanting to get you up and rocking.”
And with musicians whose careers span Aerosmith, The Babys, Sheryl Crow and decades of touring history, Close Enemies now step forward with a debut album built not on nostalgia but on the simple power of five players chasing the spark of rock and roll together.
