The Swiss extreme metal pioneers unveil new material for the first time in years, blending their classic sound with industrial intensity
The release follows “Black Matter Manifesto” and signals a renewed creative chapter for a band that has consistently pushed the boundaries of extreme metal since the late 1980s.
“Hidden Empire” is featured on the band’s upcoming limited 12" maxi single vinyl, set for release on April 24 via Napalm Records mail-order and the band’s official shop.
Formed in 1987, Samael are widely regarded as one of the most influential acts in extreme metal, shaping the genre through landmark releases such as Worship Him and Passage.
Over the years, the band developed a distinctive sound that blends black metal, industrial textures and symphonic elements, a formula that set them apart from their contemporaries and helped redefine the scope of the genre.
With “Hidden Empire”, the band explores themes of unseen forces shaping modern existence, translating them into a dense and atmospheric sonic landscape.
“Hidden in plain sight, right in front of us, everywhere and at all times,” the band explains. “We no longer see what we are used to seeing, it becomes our reality.”
Musically, the track begins with echoes of the band’s classic era before evolving into a heavier, more industrial direction, maintaining tension from start to finish.
The release of “Hidden Empire” marks Samael’s first new material in nearly a decade following their 2017 album Hegemony, reinforcing their position as one of the most enduring and forward-thinking bands in extreme metal.
Together with “Black Matter Manifesto”, the new material suggests that Samael are not simply revisiting their past, but continuing to evolve their sound while maintaining the dark identity that defined their legacy
