The Lithuanian modern progressive band introduce “Ydos” as a conceptual album exploring human vices, with “Aurea” presenting their cinematic and heavy sound.
Black Spikes enter a new phase in their career with the announcement of “Ydos”, their upcoming studio album and first release under Napalm Records. Emerging from Lithuania’s growing metal scene, the band has developed a sound that blends modern progressive elements with electronic textures and a dark conceptual approach, building a distinctive identity outside traditional metal strongholds.
Set for release on August 28, 2026, “Ydos” is structured as a conceptual work centered on human flaws, with each track representing a different aspect of that theme. The album presents a cohesive narrative shaped by atmosphere, contrast, and a balance between heaviness and experimentation.
The signing with Napalm Records marks a significant step for the band, reflecting a transition from regional recognition to a broader international platform. The moment also represents an unexpected turning point, as the band had previously viewed a deal with Napalm Records as unlikely given their origins and language. Prior to this release, Black Spikes had already gained attention with nominations at Lithuania’s M.A.M.A. Music Awards and increasing exposure through their live performances.
Musically, “Ydos” combines progressive metal structures with electronic elements, creating a sound that moves between aggressive riffs and cinematic passages. The use of their native language further reinforces the band’s identity, adding a distinct character to their vocal delivery and overall aesthetic.
The first single, “Aurea”, introduces the album’s conceptual direction through its focus on pride. The track reflects the band’s ability to alternate between intensity and restraint, blending heavy instrumentation with more atmospheric sections that shape its narrative flow.
Across the album, Black Spikes explore different dimensions of human behavior. Tracks such as “Melas”, “Mara”, and “Revana” expand the conceptual framework, incorporating themes of deception, curiosity, and revenge, while maintaining a consistent sonic identity. The interplay between electronic beats, progressive arrangements, and metal foundations defines the album’s overall direction.
The creative process behind “Ydos” was guided by a clear conceptual vision from its earliest stages. Each composition was developed as part of a broader narrative, allowing the band to build a structured and interconnected body of work rather than a collection of individual songs.
The album also reflects a collaborative and exploratory approach to production. By integrating sampling, layered textures, and dynamic shifts, Black Spikes create a sound that remains rooted in metal while extending into more experimental territory.
