Skid Row's Rachel Bolan Shares 'At War With Myself' Video Featuring Danko Jones from Solo Album 'Gargoyle of the Garden State'
After decades as a central figure in Skid Row, bassist and songwriter Rachel Bolan steps into a new creative space with his solo project under the name BOLAN. With “Gargoyle of the Garden State”, he presents a body of work shaped by his roots, influences, and a long-standing presence in rock and metal.
Set for release on June 12, 2026, the album reflects a more personal and direct approach, drawing from the attitude and storytelling associated with his upbringing in New Jersey. Rather than functioning as a side project, the record stands as a fully realized statement that expands Bolan’s role beyond his work in Skid Row.
The track “At War With Myself” introduces this new chapter through a collaboration with Danko Jones, bringing together two distinct voices within a song that balances raw energy with melodic structure. The track reflects a blend of punk-driven intensity and anthemic songwriting, elements that define much of the album’s direction.
Produced by Nick Raskulinecz, known for his work with Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains and Skid Row, the album began as an informal collaboration before evolving into a complete creative project. The production emphasizes both clarity and edge, supporting the album’s dynamic range and stylistic diversity.
Throughout “Gargoyle of the Garden State”, Bolan expands his role as a multi-instrumentalist, performing much of the material himself while shaping the overall sound from the ground up. The album draws from a wide spectrum of influences, including punk rock, glam, Britpop, and new wave, resulting in a sound that reflects decades of musical experience.
The project also brings together a wide range of collaborators. Corey Taylor, Nuno Bettencourt, Damon Johnson, and Steve Conte contribute across the record, alongside fellow Skid Row members Scotti Hill, Dave “Snake” Sabo, and Rob Hammersmith. These collaborations reflect both personal connections and a shared musical history that adds depth to the album’s overall character.
Among the album’s interpretations is a reimagined version of Oasis’ “Rock And Roll Star”, approached through Bolan’s own perspective and stylistic direction, further expanding the album’s range while maintaining its identity.
With “Gargoyle of the Garden State”, Rachel Bolan steps beyond his established role in Skid Row to deliver a record that reflects both his history and his individuality as an artist. The project stands as a continuation of his musical journey, while opening a new chapter defined by creative control and collaboration.
