Moonspell introduce “Far From God” as a new studio album via Napalm Records, exploring gothic themes of love, darkness and redemption through their title track
Portuguese gothic metal pioneers Moonspell return with “Far From God”, a new studio album that reflects both a continuation of their legacy and a renewed creative direction. Known for shaping the foundations of gothic metal since the 1990s, the band approaches this release with a focus on identity rather than reinvention.
Set for release on July 3, 2026 via Napalm Records, the album emerges after a prolonged period of creative exploration, marked by uncertainty and eventual rediscovery. Rather than adapting to contemporary trends, Moonspell reinforce their core sound, presenting a work that emphasizes atmosphere, darkness, and emotional depth.
The title track, “Far From God”, introduces the album’s direction through a narrative centered on vampiric love and gothic symbolism. Built on dense guitar work, layered keyboards, and a dramatic vocal performance, the song reflects a return to the band’s signature aesthetic, balancing heaviness with a romantic and theatrical tone.
Thematically, the album moves through concepts of existential struggle, redemption, and the symbolic world of nocturnal creatures. Elements such as vampires, werewolves, and religious imagery are presented not as fantasy escapism, but as vehicles for emotional expression rooted in gothic tradition.
Produced by Jaime Gomez Arellano, whose work includes Paradise Lost, Ghost, and Sólstafir, the album combines a classic gothic sensibility with a contemporary sonic approach. The production emphasizes depth and texture, reinforcing the band’s atmospheric identity while maintaining clarity and power.
“Far From God” also reflects a broader artistic statement. After years of creative uncertainty, the band positions this release as a reaffirmation of purpose, reconnecting with the darker spirit of their earlier work while continuing to evolve within the genre they helped define.
