Swedish gothic doom metal band Draconian present “Misanthrope River”, a new single taken from their upcoming album “In Somnolent Ruin”, scheduled for release on May 8, 2026 via Napalm Records.

The track reflects the band’s characteristic approach, combining melancholic atmosphere with slow, immersive structures while exploring themes of alienation, isolation and the search for meaning.

As previously explored in Rockum’s coverage of Draconian’s return alongside Lisa Johansson, the upcoming album marks a significant moment in the band’s evolution, reintroducing a voice that shaped their early identity.

Speaking about the single, vocalist Anders Jacobsson described its origins and direction:

“‘Misanthrope River’ was the first song written for this album… It carries a sense of something ancient and mysterious, while exploring isolation and the struggle of moving against the current.”

The album represents a continuation of the path established with “Under a Godless Veil”, while also marking a new chapter through the return of Lisa Johansson, whose vocal presence defined the band’s early releases.

Musically, Draconian maintain their position within the second wave of gothic doom metal, combining doom-driven weight, atmospheric textures and poetic lyricism that has characterized their work since their debut “Where Lovers Mourn” (2003).

The new material further explores emotional duality, with compositions that move between fragility and intensity, reinforcing the band’s identity without abandoning their core sound.
