The second full-length by the Bay Area artist arrives in 2026 following a five-year writing process
Bay Area artist Kathryn Mohr has released her second full-length album “Carve”, now available via The Flenser.
“Carve” was written over the course of five years and recorded during a shorter period in the Mojave Desert, where Mohr worked largely in isolation.
The album was created using minimal equipment, including acoustic guitar and field recording tools, with sessions taking place in a rural environment that shaped both the sound and structure of the material.
The record centers on themes of memory, place, and emotional experience, particularly exploring the relationship between love and grief.
According to Mohr, the album reflects how memory can exist beyond the body, becoming tied to landscapes and environments.
The material also considers the effects of prolonged isolation and the process of reconnecting with emotional presence.
Part of the album’s development followed a period of travel through the Mojave Desert, where Mohr spent time alone before returning to record the material.
Some of the songs were written earlier, during a period marked by emotional distance, with the writing process extending over several years.

The recording process emphasized a stripped-down approach, focusing on atmosphere and layered vocal elements.

“Carve” follows Mohr’s previous work and represents a continuation of her approach to songwriting, shaped through extended periods of writing and reflection.
With “Carve,” Kathryn Mohr presents a second full-length shaped by time, isolation, and environment, documenting a process of creation rather than resolution.
