Michael Shuman’s solo project continues the rollout surrounding the upcoming EP with a track centered on Los Angeles and longtime creative connections
GLU, the solo project of Michael Shuman of Queens Of The Stone Age and Mini Mansions, has unveiled the new single “LA”, featuring guest vocals from actress and singer Lily James.
The song will appear on the upcoming EP “PONY BOY”, scheduled for release on August 14 through FLG.
The release continues the development of the GLU project, which combines alternative rock, electronic influences, pop structures, and dance-oriented production.
“LA” was written and recorded approximately four years prior to its release and centers on Michael Shuman’s connection to Los Angeles and the experience of repeatedly returning home after years of touring activity.
According to Shuman, the song reflects nostalgia tied to the city and the atmosphere of Southern California summers.
The track also features vocals from longtime friend Lily James, whose participation expands the collaborative direction surrounding the project.
The accompanying video continues the visual presentation associated with the EP cycle.
The upcoming EP follows earlier GLU releases including the debut EP “MY DEMONS” (2023), which explored themes related to addiction, childhood trauma, personal struggle, and loss.
Prior to “LA”, the project also introduced the tracks “PONY BOY” and a reinterpretation of Jennifer Paige’s “CRUSH”.
In 2025, GLU additionally released the single “BOOGIE MAN”, which later appeared in MLB The Show ‘25 alongside music connected to Kendrick Lamar and De La Soul.
The project has drawn comparisons to artists such as Jamiroquai, Gorillaz, and Mac Miller due to its blend of alternative music, groove-oriented production, and melodic songwriting.
