The Swedish gothic doom metal band continue the rollout surrounding their upcoming album while marking the return of vocalist Lisa Johansson
Draconian have unveiled the lyric video for “Anima”, the third single from the upcoming album “In Somnolent Ruin”, scheduled for release on May 8 through Napalm Records.
The development of “In Somnolent Ruin” was previously documented by Rockum through Draconian Share 'Misanthrope River' and Expand the Vision of 'In Somnolent Ruin' and Draconian Return with Lisa Johansson and the Gothic Doom Vision of 'In Somnolent Ruin'.
The band also recently entered rotation on the Rockum Radio Show, as featured in Rob Zombie, Sanctuary, Draconian, Savatage and Immolation Featured on Gino Alache's Rockum Radio Show.
The new track features guest vocals from Swedish musician Daniel Änghede.
According to vocalist Anders Jacobsson, “Anima” originated from a poem written in 2019 centered on themes involving duality, introspection, and the acceptance of darker aspects of human identity.
The song references the Jungian concept of the “anima” while incorporating a more gothic-oriented atmosphere compared to portions of the band’s earlier material.
Guest vocalist Daniel Änghede contributes lead vocals alongside Lisa Johansson, creating a vocal arrangement built around melodic contrast and layered harmonies.
The lyric video expands the visual identity surrounding the album cycle.
“In Somnolent Ruin” marks the return of vocalist Lisa Johansson and arrives six years after “Under A Godless Veil”, the band’s previous studio album.
The release also introduces lineup developments involving guitarist Niklas Nord, drummer Daniel Johansson, and bassist Daniel Arvidsson, who transitioned from guitar to bass duties in 2022.
Throughout the album, the band continue combining gothic doom structures with atmospheric passages, melodic vocal interplay, and slower emotionally driven arrangements.
Tracks such as “Cold Heavens”, “The Face of God”, and “Misanthrope River” expand the album’s darker thematic direction through varying tempos and vocal approaches.
