The London heavy metal band return in September 2026 through Nuclear Blast Records with a darker and heavier studio album inspired by occult lore and the mythology of London
Green Lung have announced their fourth studio album “Necropolitan”, scheduled for release on September 11, 2026 through Nuclear Blast Records, while simultaneously unveiling the lead single and video “Evil in This House”.
The album follows “This Heathen Land” (2023) and continues the band’s exploration of British folklore, occult traditions, doom-laden hard rock, and classic heavy metal rooted in the lineage of groups such as Black Sabbath and the NWOBHM movement.
According to the band, “Evil in This House” was conceived around the idea of a stoner metal band conducting a paranormal investigation, combining Sabbath-inspired riffing, vintage horror atmosphere, and psychedelic keyboard textures.
The accompanying video draws inspiration from 1970s haunted house cinema and expands the occult aesthetic increasingly associated with Green Lung’s visual identity.
Produced and mixed by Tom Dalgety — known for work involving Opeth and Ghost — the album was recorded at the legendary Rockfield Studios in Wales during January 2026.
For the sessions, Green Lung deliberately pursued a rawer and more immediate production approach, scaling back dense arrangements in favor of a sound intended to reflect the band’s live performances more faithfully.
The album additionally serves as a conceptual tribute to London itself, incorporating references to occultism, mythology, urban decay, and historical imagery connected to the band’s hometown.
The release also arrives during a symbolic period for traditional heavy metal following the death of Ozzy Osbourne and the continuing legacy surrounding Black Sabbath, influences openly acknowledged throughout the band’s evolution.

Green Lung emerged from the London heavy rock underground with the independently released EP “Free the Witch” in 2018 before expanding their reputation through the albums “Woodland Rites” (2019), “Black Harvest” (2021), and “This Heathen Land” (2023).
Across those releases, the band developed a recognizable identity blending doom metal, hard rock, progressive influences, and British folklore narratives involving paganism, legends, rural mysticism, and occult imagery.
The group have additionally toured internationally alongside acts including Clutch, Opeth, and Unto Others, while performing at festivals such as Roadburn and Download.
Their previous album “This Heathen Land” reached the top position on the UK Official Rock and Metal Album Chart.
With “Necropolitan,” Green Lung continue strengthening a distinctly British interpretation of modern heavy metal — one rooted equally in doom riffs, folklore, vintage horror aesthetics, and the storytelling traditions that shaped the genre’s earliest decades.
