The legendary American hard rock band continue celebrating their musical influences through a new interpretation of the 1977 Queen classic
Tesla have unveiled a new cover version of Queen’s 1977 song “Spread Your Wings”, continuing the promotional cycle surrounding the upcoming album “Homage”, scheduled for release on July 17, 2026 through Frontiers Music Srl.
The release arrives alongside an official music video and further expands the concept behind the album, which revisits songs that helped shape the band’s musical identity across decades of hard rock history.
Rockum previously covered the beginning of the project in Tesla Announce 'Homage' Album, Share 'I Love You' Cover and Join Mötley Crüe Tour 2026.
Additional Rockum coverage connected to the band includes The Great Radio Controversy by Tesla - The Story Behind the Album, Legendary Rockers TESLA Release Acoustic Music Video for 'All About Love', TESLA Premieres 'From the Heart' Video Instrumental Track from 'All About Love' EP, and TESLA Announce Tour Dates For January 2026.
Originally released by Queen on the 1977 album “News Of The World,” the song was written by bassist John Deacon and has long remained one of the deeper cuts within the band’s catalog.
According to Brian Wheat, Tesla always viewed the song as an overlooked composition overshadowed by major hits such as “We Are The Champions” and “We Will Rock You.”
The new interpretation preserves the melodic structure and emotional atmosphere of the original while adapting it to Tesla’s blues-driven hard rock style.
“Homage” revisits the band’s origins as a California club act performing cover material before evolving into one of the defining American hard rock bands of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The album additionally arrives more than twenty years after Tesla’s “Real to Reel” releases and functions as both a tribute to their musical influences and a reflection on the artists who shaped the band’s songwriting identity.
The release includes interpretations of material associated with:
Queen
Sam Cooke
The Temptations
Bob Seger
Elvis Presley
Badfinger
James Brown
Supertramp
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Etta James
Hank Williams Sr.
The album also includes the original Tesla song “Never Alone.”

Formed during the 1980s Sacramento hard rock scene, Tesla became one of the defining American hard rock bands of their era through albums such as “Mechanical Resonance,” “The Great Radio Controversy,” and “Psychotic Supper.”
Across decades of touring and recording, the band maintained a blues-based hard rock identity rooted in strong songwriting, melodic hooks, and classic rock influences.
With “Homage,” Tesla revisit the songs and artists that helped shape their musical foundation while reconnecting their current era to the classic rock traditions that influenced the band long before their rise to arena-level success.
