The symphonic metal veterans return with their 14th studio album, a Neo-Victorian concept centered on RavenHill Asylum, arriving August 28 via Napalm Records
KAMELOT have announced their fourteenth studio album, “Dark Asylum”, scheduled for release on August 28, 2026 through Napalm Records. More than three decades into their career, the band returns with a conceptual work set within the mysterious world of RavenHill Asylum, a former cathedral transformed into an institution where science, faith, memory, and psychological turmoil intersect.
Rockum previously covered the band's upcoming touring activity in Kamelot Announce Massive 2026 USA and Canada Tour with Major North American Return. Rockum also reported on the anniversary reissue of one of the band's most celebrated albums in KAMELOT Celebrates 20th Anniversary of Prominent Album The Black Halo with Brand New Reissue Formats.
Readers can also revisit Rockum's exclusive interview with founder and guitarist Thomas Youngblood in Kamelot’s Thomas Youngblood on I Am the Empire – Exclusive Interview with Gino Alache.
According to guitarist and founding member Thomas Youngblood, the album follows a central character trapped within a labyrinth of fractured memories, hidden identities, and psychological torment while wandering through the endless corridors of RavenHill Asylum. As the story unfolds, the journey gradually evolves from despair toward self-discovery, redemption, and the possibility of healing.
Vocalist Tommy Karevik described the album as an exploration of the human mind, examining the tension between fear and hope, destruction and restoration, chaos and inner peace. The concept provided the foundation for a darker and more cinematic musical direction while maintaining the band's established symphonic metal identity.
Produced once again by longtime collaborator Sascha Paeth and mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen, the album continues Kamelot's tradition of combining theatrical storytelling, symphonic arrangements, progressive elements, and melodic metal songwriting.
Several guest musicians contribute throughout the album, including:
Tobias Sammet (Avantasia)
Clémentine Delauney (Visions of Atlantis)
Ignacia Fernández (Decessus)
Lea-Sophie Fischer (Eluveitie)
Rannveig Sif Sigurðardóttir
Sólveig Sara Leupold
Billy King
The album unfolds through fifteen interconnected compositions that expand the RavenHill narrative while moving between orchestral passages, heavy guitar-driven arrangements, atmospheric textures, and character-based storytelling.

Formed in Florida in the early 1990s, KAMELOT became one of the defining names in modern symphonic and progressive power metal through albums such as “The Fourth Legacy,” “Karma,” “Epica,” “The Black Halo,” “Ghost Opera,” “Silverthorn,” and “The Awakening.” Across more than three decades, the band has built an international following through conceptual storytelling, orchestral arrangements, and ambitious live productions.
With “Dark Asylum,” KAMELOT continue the narrative-driven approach that has characterized much of their catalog while introducing a new conceptual world centered on RavenHill Asylum. Supported by an extensive world tour and a cast of guest musicians drawn from across the symphonic metal scene, the album represents the next chapter in a career that has remained one of the genre’s most consistent and recognizable since the 1990s.
