The Canadian progressive metal pioneers document their June 2025 orchestral performance in Québec City while continuing the legacy of 'Synchro Anarchy,' 'Morgöth Tales' and more than four decades of sci-fi metal innovation
VOÏVOD have released "Symphonique", a live album recorded with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, documenting a special performance held on June 4, 2025 at the Grand Théâtre de Québec in Québec City, Canada.
The release captures twelve songs across more than seventy-three minutes, combining the band's progressive and science-fiction-inspired metal with full orchestral arrangements. The project presents material spanning different eras of the group's catalogue and marks one of the most ambitious live productions in Voïvod's history.
Rockum previously covered the announcement of the release in Voïvod Announce 'Symphonique' Live Release and Share 'Forgotten In Space (Symphonique)' Ahead of 2026 European Tour, which introduced the project and one of its first preview tracks.
The recording originated from a special collaboration between Voïvod and the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec, bringing together one of Canada's most influential metal bands and one of the country's oldest orchestral institutions.
Rockum also documented the origins of the project in Voivod Teams Up with Orchestre Symphonique de Québec for Live Album Recording, which detailed the preparations for the historic performance.
The event transformed songs originally built around progressive metal, thrash metal and experimental rock into large-scale orchestral arrangements while preserving the distinctive identity that has defined the band since its formation in Québec during the early 1980s.
Following the performance, Rockum covered the event itself in VOIVOD Delivers Epic Orchestral Performance With Quebec Symphony, documenting the concert that would later become the foundation for "Symphonique."

As with previous Voïvod releases, the artwork was created by drummer and founding member Michel "Away" Langevin.
Reflecting on the release, Michel "Away" Langevin described the album as the realization of a long-standing goal for the band.
According to Langevin, the experience will continue in 2027 through another orchestral performance with the Orchestre Symphonique du Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean in the region where Voïvod originally formed in 1983.
He also noted the band's hope of eventually presenting the orchestral concept internationally alongside local symphony orchestras in different countries.
"Symphonique" follows the release of "Synchro Anarchy" (2022), which earned a Juno Award and achieved chart positions in several European territories, including Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Netherlands.
The live album also arrives after the band's 40th anniversary release "Morgöth Tales" in 2023, a project that revisited material from across the group's catalogue through newly recorded versions.
Together, these releases continue a period of sustained activity for a band that has remained creatively active more than four decades after its formation.
Voïvod's relationship with Rockum extends beyond news coverage.
Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain previously spoke with Rockum in Voivod's Daniel 'Chewy' Mongrain on Lost Machine – Live – Interview with Gino Alache, discussing the band's activities and creative process.
More recently, music from "Symphonique" reached radio audiences through DevilDriver, Venom, Soulfly, Voivod and Armored Saint Featured on Gino Alache's Rockum Radio Show, where the release became part of the programming on the Rockum Radio Show broadcast through CFRC 101.9 FM in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

Since forming in 1983, Voïvod have occupied a unique place within heavy music by combining progressive metal, thrash metal, science-fiction themes and experimental songwriting. Across more than four decades, the band has continuously evolved while maintaining a recognizable identity built around imagination, technical musicianship and conceptual storytelling.
With "Symphonique", Voïvod add another distinctive chapter to a catalogue that has consistently challenged expectations. By bringing together the band's material and the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, the release documents a unique moment in the group's history while connecting more than forty years of progressive and science-fiction-inspired metal with a full orchestral setting.
