SKÁLD have announced their new album "Ørl?g", scheduled for release on September 25, 2026. The record marks the French band's first release through Napalm Records and arrives alongside the premiere of the album's opening single, "Draumakona".

Known for combining Nordic-inspired instrumentation, traditional themes and vocal arrangements rooted in ancient storytelling, SKÁLD continue a musical direction built around interpretations of Norse culture, mythology and Skaldic poetry.

The announcement also marks a new chapter in the band's career following their signing with Napalm Records, which will release the album worldwide.

"Draumakona" serves as the first introduction to "Ørl?g" and explores themes connected to dreams, prophecy and the role of women within shamanic traditions.

According to the band, the song focuses on the search for knowledge through visions, self-discovery and personal journeys. Its lyrical themes reference the Norns, the mythological figures responsible for weaving the destinies of gods and mortals in Norse mythology.

Musically, the track alternates between female lead vocals and layered choral arrangements, establishing many of the sonic elements that appear throughout the album.

The title "Ørl?g" refers to a concept found in Norse tradition associated with destiny, inherited circumstances and the consequences of individual actions.

According to the band, the album examines how personal choices influence the future while exploring themes of growth, responsibility, travel, transformation and self-reflection.

Each composition presents a different setting, character, place or decision, forming a collection of songs inspired by mythology, folklore and ancient storytelling traditions.

Inspired by Skaldic poetry, the album incorporates instruments associated with Nordic and medieval musical traditions.

Among the instruments used throughout "Ørlog" are:

Nordic Fiddles

Harps

Lyres

Horns

Kannels

Whistles

Jaw Harps

The arrangements are further supported by multiple lead vocalists whose performances contribute to the album's emphasis on communal storytelling and historical atmosphere.

Formed in France, SKÁLD have developed a distinctive approach centered on the reinterpretation of Nordic mythology, historical texts and traditional musical forms. Rather than recreating ancient music in a strictly academic manner, the band combines historical inspiration with contemporary production and large-scale vocal arrangements.

Across their recordings and international tours, SKÁLD have helped introduce audiences beyond the Nordic countries to themes drawn from Skaldic poetry, Norse folklore and medieval musical traditions.

Through "Ørlog", SKÁLD continue exploring themes drawn from Nordic tradition, mythology and Skaldic poetry while expanding a catalogue built around historical instruments, vocal storytelling and interpretations of ancient cultural sources. The album also marks the beginning of the band's collaboration with Napalm Records as they prepare for an extensive international touring cycle.
