The iconic voice behind “Hold the Line” and “Rosanna” spends his days saving lives far from the spotlight
Born Robert Troy Kimball, but known worldwide simply as Bobby Kimball, the singer defined the golden era of Toto alongside guitarist Steve Lukather. Together, they crafted unforgettable albums such as Toto (1978), Hydra (1979), Turn Back (1981) and Toto IV (1982), leaving a permanent mark on rock history.
His unmistakable voice powered some of the band’s most iconic tracks, including “Hold the Line” and “Rosanna.” Yet beyond the arena lights and platinum records, few fans know that this rock legend carries another deep passion: animals, especially dogs.
In 2011, Kimball and his wife, actress Jasmin Gabay, founded Saving K9 Lives, a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing abandoned dogs across California and finding them permanent homes. Their mission extends beyond city borders, partnering with similar rescue groups across the country and around the world to promote adoption and awareness.
Many of the couple’s celebrity friends actively support the foundation’s cause. On the official website, visitors can find allies such as actress, writer and animal activist Dyan Cannon, Oscar winner for Heaven Can Wait and known from Ally McBeal, actor Jack McGee from Rescue Me, singer Robin McAuley from Survivor, bassist Sean McNabb from Quiet Riot and guitarist Howard Leese from Heart and Bad Company.
Hollywood is often known for glamour, rockstars, actors and egos, but there is an untold story about the humanity of these stars in the City of Angels. Their help combats animal injustice with giant hearts concerned about shelter conditions and homeless pets everywhere.
The organization focuses on rescuing dogs from California shelters that operate under a harsh policy. If unclaimed within 72 hours, animals can be euthanized legally. We rescue all kinds of dogs, the foundation explains. We worry about abandoned animals because the system allows them to be put down after only three days.
For Kimball, compassion is simple and unconditional. Dogs do not have a voice. They cannot tell you their problems, but they love you more than anything. If they love you and make you happy, you must care for them. I would take care of them all if I could.
His mission is clear. Turn suffering into hope. I want to make sure those on the streets find a good home. They have been through hell, and I want to take them to paradise. Many celebrities love animals, and through their fame, they can motivate hundreds to help.
Far from the stadium crowds, Bobby Kimball finds a different kind of spotlight, one that shines on compassion, second chances and the silent heartbeat of Los Angeles.>
