The Danish band GRADIENCE will release their debut full-length album Anomaly on September 4 through Metal Blade Records. The Danish band have also released “White Noise”, a new single and video from the album.

The album follows previously released videos for “Deathwish” and “Master To The Slave”, both of which are also included on Anomaly.

According to vocalist Gavin Mistry, “White Noise” is one of the album’s more experimental and unpredictable tracks.

“‘White Noise’ is one of our more experimental and unpredictable tracks on the album,” Mistry said. “The lyrics also reflect that same unpredictability; that I can find myself being confrontational and extroverted, but at the same time need solitude to cope with everything. The spoken word at the end is me reflecting on that introverted side of myself.”

The press release describes Anomaly as a record that brings together elements of blackened death metal, sludge-influenced heaviness, dark urban trap-rap, emotive vocal lines, synth textures and detailed production.

GRADIENCE released an official video for “White Noise”. The band had previously released videos for “Deathwish” and “Master To The Slave” as part of the album’s rollout.

Anomaly is the debut full-length album from GRADIENCE. The source material identifies guitarist Jakob Lærke Harris and vocalist Gavin Mistry as the central creative pairing behind the project, while the album lineup also includes drummer Frederik Kjelstrup Hansen and bassist Patrick Petersen.

Jakob Lærke Harris and Gavin Mistry first connected in 2022 at a Copenhagen show by local deathcore band Cabal. The press release notes that Harris came from a background as a visual artist and musician, while Mistry had been active in different hip-hop collaborations.

Speaking about the writing process, Jakob Lærke Harris said the project began with the intention of writing music for themselves while exploring a combination of metal and other musical language.

“When we began writing together, we suddenly found songwriting to be straightforward,” Harris said. “We knew from the get-go we wanted to write metal and do something completely new that we hadn’t heard before and at the same time write music we felt we needed to hear. That was our only goal and focus: writing music for ourselves.”

Although GRADIENCE is presented as a collaborative musical project, the press release states that Gavin Mistry writes all lyrics for the band. Song titles on Anomaly, including “Vermin”, “Agony”, “Blame Me” and “Deathwish”, reflect the darker lyrical framing described in the source material.

Gavin Mistry said his lyrics are shaped by personal experiences, emotions and his life as an immigrant in Denmark.

“Lyrically, I tend to write from my own experiences and emotions,” Mistry said. “As an immigrant in Denmark, I have lived and received my fair share of pushback and challenges. From a young age, I have practiced writing about my thoughts and feelings – either as poetry or diary entries. It's been a way for me to cope with the feeling of being alone and misunderstood – pretty much all my teen years. The album's lyrical themes can be experienced as me reflecting on past, present and future truths and/or lies that have been important for me to deal with.”
