The founder, guitarist and songwriter discusses the creation of Eclipse, lessons learned from The Wonders Still Awaiting and the musical identity that has carried XANDRIA through more than three decades in this exclusive Rockum interview with Gino Alache.
Marco Heubaum, founder, guitarist and songwriter of XANDRIA, spoke with Gino Alache in an exclusive interview for Rockum and the Rockum Radio Show on CFRC 101.9 FM in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, around the release of the band’s new album, Eclipse.
The conversation begins with the origins of Eclipse. Heubaum discusses when he began writing the album, how the original ideas developed along the way and whether one particular song helped define the direction of the record.
He also explains what XANDRIA learned from The Wonders Still Awaiting, how long Eclipse took to complete and which parts of the writing, arranging and recording process required the most time. Heubaum also reflects on how a new XANDRIA song usually begins and which composition from the album makes him especially proud as a songwriter.
The interview then looks back across more than three decades of XANDRIA. Heubaum discusses what has remained at the heart of the band since its earliest years, how he views the first XANDRIA albums today and which releases helped change the direction of the group.
During the exclusive conversation with Gino Alache, Heubaum also reflects on overlooked songs from the XANDRIA catalog, the decisions and challenges that shaped the band’s journey and what continues to inspire him after more than 30 years of creating music.
The conversation closes with the possibility of XANDRIA returning to Canada, advice for young musicians hoping to build a lasting career and a final message for Rockum readers and Rockum Radio listeners.
