Accept Re-Record 'Save Us' With Tobias Forge, Frank Bello and Ray Luzier for 50th Anniversary Album

Accept have released a newly recorded version of “Save Us,” originally featured on their 1980 album I’m a Rebel, as the third preview of the German heavy metal band’s 50th anniversary project, Teutonic Titans 1976–2026.

The new recording brings together Accept guitarist Wolf Hoffmann and vocalist Mark Tornillo with Ghost leader Tobias Forge, Anthrax bassist Frank Bello and drummer Ray Luzier. The track was produced, mixed and mastered by Zeuss.

Unlike some of Accept’s most frequently revisited classics, “Save Us” has remained a deeper cut in the band’s catalogue. Its return came partly through an unexpected conversation between Hoffmann and Forge.

“Tobias was not really on my radar,” Hoffmann explained. “Obviously, I know Ghost, and they’re huge, but last year he turned up at one of our shows when we played in Stockholm.”

According to Hoffmann, Forge revealed that “Save Us” was one of his favorite Accept songs and that he had previously considered recording it with Ghost.

“‘Save Us?’ I don’t even remember that song,” Hoffmann recalled. “Nobody has even mentioned that song! I had to go back and listen to it.”

After later seeing Ghost live, Hoffmann said the connection became clearer and he could imagine Forge performing the track.

Accept Continue Their 50th Anniversary Project

Teutonic Titans 1976–2026 will be released September 4, 2026, through Napalm Records and revisits 19 songs from Accept’s catalogue with 50 guest musicians appearing throughout the project.

Rockum first covered the anniversary record when Accept announced Teutonic Titans 1976–2026 and its extensive list of guest artists in April.

That was followed in June by a new recording of “Fast as a Shark” featuring Phil Anselmo, Kirk Hammett, Mikkey Dee and Billy Sheehan.

In July, Accept revisited another cornerstone of their catalogue with “Balls to the Wall,” featuring Rob Halford and Matthias Jabs.

Accept have also remained part of Rockum’s radio coverage, including Gino Alache’s Rockum Radio Show on CFRC 101.9 FM.

The anniversary project also reconnects with a longer history between Accept and Rockum. In 2021, Wolf Hoffmann spoke directly with Gino Alache in an exclusive Rockum interview surrounding Accept’s Too Mean to Die era, discussing the band and its continuing evolution decades into its career.

Five years later, Teutonic Titans 1976–2026 finds Hoffmann looking back across that history by rebuilding songs from Accept’s formative period with musicians from several generations of hard rock and heavy metal.

50 Guest Musicians Across 19 Accept Songs

The anniversary collection primarily moves through material originally recorded between I’m a Rebel in 1980 and Eat the Heat in 1989.

Each track features a different combination of musicians around Hoffmann, Tornillo and members of Accept.

“Fast as a Shark,” originally released on Restless and Wild in 1982, brings together Phil Anselmo, Kirk Hammett, Mikkey Dee and Billy Sheehan.

“Love Child,” from Balls to the Wall, features Billy Corgan and former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson.

Other musicians appearing across the album include Sebastian Bach, Todd La Torre, Dino Jelusick, Ola Englund, Alex Skolnick, Rudy Sarzo and Chris Jericho.

“Hellhammer,” originally from Eat the Heat, features Accept’s current instrumental lineup of Wolf Hoffmann, Martin Motnik, Philip Shouse and Christopher Williams alongside vocalist Jason McMaster.

Speaking about the broader project, Hoffmann said the anniversary offered an opportunity to bring together musicians who have been friends, peers and influences throughout Accept’s history.

“There is no better way to celebrate this 50-year anniversary than to have our musical peers, friends, and inspirations come together with us to record these classic ACCEPT songs,” Hoffmann said.

With “Save Us,” Accept continue using Teutonic Titans 1976–2026 not simply to revisit their best-known songs, but to reopen different parts of a catalogue that has developed across five decades. Bringing a relatively overlooked track from I’m a Rebel back into focus also gives the anniversary project another connection between Accept’s early recordings and the generations of musicians that followed them.
