The dark metal band previews Lay Me Down O Silent Fear with a song Oliver Nikolas Schmid initially considered B-side material before live audiences changed its course
Lacrimas Profundere have released a new video for “Nevermore,” a song from their upcoming studio album Lay Me Down O Silent Fear, arriving September 25, 2026 through Steamhammer. Behind the single is a more unusual story than a standard album preview.
According to guitarist Oliver Nikolas Schmid, “Nevermore” was one of the final songs written for the record. Vocalist Julian Larre immediately responded to the music, hearing elements that reminded him of Type O Negative, while Schmid was considerably less convinced and initially viewed the song as possible B-side material.
That changed after Larre developed its vocal melody. Schmid said the melody brought to mind some of his older musical heroes, including Bon Jovi, but the band still decided to test the unfinished proposition in front of actual audiences before making a final judgment. Lacrimas Profundere began performing “Nevermore” live despite audiences having never heard the song before. The response settled the argument.
Schmid recalled crowds quickly singing along with the chorus and continuing to chant “Nevermore” after the song had finished. For the guitarist, that reaction was the moment he realized the track belonged on the album. He compared the situation to Paradise Lost’s “As I Die,” a song associated with the band’s 1992 album Shades of God, explaining that it was another track whose eventual importance exceeded its initial expectations. Rather than presenting “Nevermore” as an obvious single from its inception, Schmid’s account documents a song whose position changed because of the reaction it received onstage.
Lay Me Down O Silent Fear will be released worldwide on September 25, 2026 through Steamhammer. The album contains ten tracks, with “Nevermore” appearing second in the sequence.
Steamhammer/SPV has confirmed CD and vinyl editions. The vinyl edition is pressed on white/black splatter vinyl, while the CD comes as a digipak.
The band’s press information also lists a limited box set containing the CD digipak, a beanie and a chain with pendant, along with exclusive CD/LP and shirt bundles through the Steamhammer shop.
SPV’s official store provides one additional collector detail: the metal box is limited to 500 units.

Lacrimas Profundere are also playing European dates throughout 2026, with announced appearances continuing into November.
What separates “Nevermore” from a routine pre-release single is that its place on Lay Me Down O Silent Fear was not obvious while the album was being assembled.
Schmid initially questioned the song. Larre heard something different in it. The band then took the unusual step of testing it live before audiences knew the recording. The reaction changed its future. That path - from possible B-side to album track and single - gives “Nevermore” its own history before Lay Me Down O Silent Fear has even been released.
