The official FIFA World Cup 2026 song also spends a ninth week at No. 1 on Billboard Global Excl. U.S., drawing 40.3 million worldwide streams more than a month after the tournament ended
Shakira and Burna Boy’s “Dai Dai” continues to lead Billboard’s global charts more than a month after the 2026 FIFA World Cup ended.
On the Billboard charts dated August 29, 2026, the official World Cup song spends a sixth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 and extends its run to nine weeks at No. 1 on Billboard Global Excl. U.S. The result is notable because the tournament that originally provided the song with its global platform concluded on July 19.
During the August 14-20 tracking period, “Dai Dai” generated 40.3 million official streams worldwide and sold 5,000 downloads, according to Luminate. Streaming declined 9% from the previous week and sales fell 18%, but the song retained the Global 200 lead. Outside the United States, it registered 34.4 million streams and 3,000 downloads, enough to remain atop Global Excl. U.S. for a ninth week.
“Dai Dai” was released on May 15, 2026 through Sony Music Latin as the official song of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Shakira and Burna Boy subsequently performed the track during the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico City on June 11. Its chart momentum continued as the competition progressed, with the song reaching No. 1 on Global Excl. U.S. at the beginning of July and topping the Global 200 later that month.
The World Cup final took place July 19, but “Dai Dai” did not disappear from the charts with the tournament. One month later, it was still No. 1 on both of Billboard’s principal global song rankings. Its latest week now extends that post-tournament run further, with the song continuing to lead both charts dated August 29.
That staying power separates the recording from the short commercial life that can sometimes accompany music created around a major sporting event.
The Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. were launched in 2020 to measure song consumption across international markets. Billboard compiles the rankings using streaming and download sales activity from more than 200 territories, with data supplied by Luminate.
The Global 200 includes worldwide activity, including the United States, while Global Excl. U.S. removes U.S. consumption from its calculation. The rankings incorporate official streams from subscription and ad-supported audio and video services alongside downloads from full-service digital retailers.
For “Dai Dai,” the distinction illustrates how broadly the song is performing: it is simultaneously No. 1 when the U.S. market is included and when that market is removed.
The track's connection with the World Cup was built into the project from the beginning.
FIFA announced “Dai Dai” as the tournament’s official song in support of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. Shakira’s royalties from the recording are being donated to the fund, while Sony Music committed to matching the first $250,000 raised. The initiative set a goal of raising $100 million by the end of the tournament to expand access to education and football opportunities for children.
The song also formed part of a larger official World Cup music campaign that included recordings by artists from multiple countries and genres. But its chart performance ultimately developed beyond the event itself.
By late July, Billboard had already documented “Dai Dai” collecting No. 1 positions across multiple territories and charts, including Latin Airplay, Billboard Colombia Hot 100, Switzerland Songs, Austria Songs, Billboard Argentina Hot 100, Germany Songs and Belgium Songs, in addition to the two global rankings.
The latest chart provides a particularly clear snapshot of the song's international reach:
Billboard Global 200: No. 1 - sixth week
Worldwide streams: 40.3 million
Worldwide downloads: 5,000
Billboard Global Excl. U.S.: No. 1 - ninth week
Streams outside the U.S.: 34.4 million
Downloads outside the U.S.: 3,000
All figures cover the August 14-20 tracking week and were reported by Billboard using Luminate data.
Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” rises back to No. 2 on the Global 200, matching its previous peak, while Tame Impala’s “Loser” advances to a new No. 3 high.
The historical value of the August 29 charts is straightforward. “Dai Dai” was created and marketed around one of the largest sporting events in the world, received enormous exposure during the tournament and could reasonably have been expected to decline once the World Cup ended.
Instead, more than a month after the final, Shakira and Burna Boy remain No. 1 on both Billboard global rankings.
The consumption numbers are declining from their earlier peaks, but the song is still generating tens of millions of streams each week and retaining enough international activity to remain ahead of new releases and other major global hits. For a recording born as the official song of a finite event, that continued chart life has become a story of its own.
