Netflix’s animated Stranger Things series returns September 17 with eight new episodes as Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Max and the Hawkins Investigators Club face a new paranormal threat
Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 is returning for Season 2, with Netflix releasing a new trailer ahead of the animated series’ September 17, 2026 premiere.
The second season will consist of eight half-hour episodes and picks up immediately after the Season 1 finale, returning to Hawkins in 1985 with the Hawkins Investigators Club facing another supernatural mystery.
With Valentine’s Day approaching, ghostly apparitions and strange creatures begin appearing around town. Netflix says the group must determine what is causing the paranormal activity before another gate to the Upside Down can be opened.
The trailer introduces another unusual development: mysterious flowers beginning to appear throughout Hawkins. Showrunner Eric Robles says Nikki and Max begin selling the flowers around town without realizing the supernatural problem connected to them, helping spread them even further.
Season 2 will return to familiar locations including Hawkins Middle School and the Palace Arcade, while also expanding the animated version of Hawkins to previously unseen locations, including a mine that becomes part of the new story.

Returning cast members also include Brett Gipson as Hopper, Jeremy Jordan as Steve Harrington, Janeane Garofalo as Anna Baxter and Alessandra Antonelli as Nancy Wheeler. Animation Magazine additionally lists Lou Diamond Phillips as Daniel Fischer.
Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 debuted on Netflix in April 2026 with a story set between Seasons 2 and 3 of the original live-action series. Its first season consisted of 10 episodes and followed familiar Stranger Things characters through a separate adventure during the winter of 1985.
Robles returns as showrunner for Season 2. Matt and Ross Duffer executive produce through Upside Down Pictures, alongside Shawn Levy through 21 Laps, Hilary Leavitt and Dan Cohen. Flying Bark Productions produces the animated series for Netflix.
The new season continues that branch of the Stranger Things universe rather than retelling events from the original series.
