Pok閙on Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch抎 & Pichu will stream exclusively worldwide on Disney+ as the deal also brings the classic Ash and Pikachu series Pok閙on the Series: The Beginning to the platform
Disney+ has signed a global distribution agreement with The Pok閙on Company International, expanding the streaming platform抯 relationship with one of the world抯 most recognizable entertainment franchises.
At the center of the deal is Pok閙on Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch抎 & Pichu, a new stop-motion animated series created with Aardman, the British studio behind Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep. The series will debut on Disney XD and stream exclusively worldwide on Disney+ in 2027.
The agreement also includes Pok閙on the Series: The Beginning, which follows Ash and Pikachu on their adventures through the Pok閙on world. The classic series began airing on Disney XD in August and is already streaming on Disney+ in the United States and select international markets. Disney describes it as the first title to launch under the new global distribution agreement.
Pok閙on Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch抎 & Pichu takes place in the Galar Region and follows Sirfetch抎 and Pichu as they travel together helping and protecting Pok閙on. Their missions rarely unfold as planned, with the series built around the developing friendship between the noble but frequently overconfident Sirfetch抎 and the more playful Pichu.
The production is being developed by The Pok閙on Company International with Aardman, whose creative team includes director Tom Parkinson, Creative Director IP Development Nat McKay and Model Making Creative Lead James Young. Aardman first revealed the project in 2025, describing it as a Pok閙on story told from the perspective of the creatures themselves while incorporating the studio抯 characteristic combination of stop-motion craftsmanship, comedy and character work.
The distribution deal is broader than the new Aardman production. Pok閙on the Series: The Beginning brings Ash and Pikachu抯 earlier animated adventures into the Disney ecosystem, adding established Pok閙on catalog programming alongside the new 2027 series.
Disney Kids & Family president Ayo Davis said the company sees Pok閙on as a property capable of connecting longtime audiences with younger viewers, while the Aardman collaboration offers a different visual approach to the franchise. The arrangement therefore gives Disney both sides of the Pok閙on catalog equation: recognizable legacy animation and newly produced franchise content.
For The Pok閙on Company International, meanwhile, Disney+ becomes the worldwide streaming home of Sirfetch抎 and Pichu抯 new stop-motion adventure when the series launches in 2027.
