The power metal band have submitted their new single for consideration as Germany’s Eurovision 2027 entry ahead of Keeper Of The Light and a European tour with Rhapsody Of Fire
Serious Black are taking power metal toward an unexpected stage. The band have released the official video for “Party in the Sun” and submitted the song for consideration as Germany’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027.
That does not mean Serious Black have been selected to represent Germany. The song has been submitted for consideration, with the country’s eventual Eurovision entry still to be determined.
“Party in the Sun” comes from the band’s upcoming album Keeper Of The Light, due January 29, 2027 through PERCEPTION, a division of Reigning Phoenix Music. It follows the previously released “Last Man Standing.”
The idea behind the song is firmly rooted in metal culture. Bassist and band mastermind Mario Lochert says “Party in the Sun” was inspired by the atmosphere of Wacken Open Air and by the sense of community that develops between musicians and audiences at metal festivals around the world.
Rather than changing Serious Black into something designed specifically for Eurovision, the song leans into the band’s established melodic power metal identity: a large chorus, festival energy and a message centered on friendship and unity.
That makes the Eurovision submission the more interesting part of the story. A song inspired by Wacken could potentially find itself competing for a place on one of the biggest mainstream music broadcasts in the world. Whether it gets that far remains to be seen.
Keeper Of The Light will contain 11 tracks and, according to the band, represents a return toward the more direct classic power metal sound associated with its earlier material.
Serious Black will also spend January and February 2027 on the road in Europe, playing an extensive series of dates with Rhapsody Of Fire, followed by several headlining shows. The tour includes Germany, the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Poland and other European markets.
The current Serious Black lineup features Nikola Mijic on vocals, Mario Lochert on bass, Dominik Sebastian and Maurus Mayer on guitars, with Christian Widmann on drums.
For now, Eurovision remains only a possibility. But Serious Black have already created an unusual connection between two musical worlds that rarely meet this directly: Wacken-style festival power metal and the Eurovision Song Contest.
