The former Van Halen singer plans to revisit his Montrose and solo catalog, develop a science-fiction rock opera and take an extended break from touring after his final 2026 concerts
Sammy Hagar says he is ready to move away from concerts built primarily around his years with Van Halen after two years of performing the band's catalog on his Best of All Worlds tour. Speaking with Eddie Trunk on SiriusXM's Trunk Nation, the singer explained that he intends to continue performing selected Van Halen songs while giving more attention to other periods of his career.
“I'm kinda done with being the Van Halen guy,” Hagar told Trunk, explaining that the Best of All Worlds tour, launched in 2024 with guitarist Joe Satriani and former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, was originally intended as a one-time project. Its success led to additional performances and a Las Vegas residency, but Hagar now wants to revisit more of his solo material, including songs from his 1977 self-titled album and his work with Montrose.

The singer also revealed plans to develop a science-fiction rock opera based on a concept he began writing after leaving Montrose in 1975. The proposed production would incorporate songs from different stages of his career, including “Space Station #5,” “Silver Lights,” “Space Age Sacrifice” and Van Halen's “Love Walks In.” Hagar hopes to present the material in smaller venues as a complete musical production rather than a traditional theatrical play, although no performance dates have been announced.
Hagar's remaining 2026 schedule includes three performances at Dolby Live at Park MGM in Las Vegas on September 23, 25 and 26, followed by his annual Birthday Bash at Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on October 9, 11 and 13. The singer said he intends to take an extended break after those concerts, with no tour currently planned for 2027, the year he turns 80.
Although the Best of All Worlds format is approaching its conclusion, Hagar has not announced his retirement from live performance or a complete departure from Van Halen's music.
