The “Anti-Hero” singer will be recognized for directing her own music videos at the September 27 ceremony in Los Angeles, becoming the most-awarded artist in MTV VMA history with 31 wins
Taylor Swift will receive the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27, recognizing her work directing music videos and developing visual narratives for her songs. The new honor, announced by CBS and MTV on September 21, celebrates recording artists whose work behind the camera has contributed to the development of music video storytelling.
The recognition will bring Swift's career total to 31 MTV VMA awards, moving her ahead of Beyoncé, with whom she currently shares the all-time record of 30 wins. Swift has also received seven Best Direction nominations throughout her career, winning the category four times. The new honor is separate from the competitive awards for which she is nominated this year.
Swift made her solo music video directorial debut with “The Man” in 2020, earning her first VMA for Best Direction. Her subsequent projects include “All Too Well: The Short Film,” “Anti-Hero,” “Bejeweled,” “Fortnight” and the more recent “The Fate of Ophelia” and “Opalite.” Her work on “All Too Well: The Short Film” earned three awards at the 2022 VMAs, including Video of the Year and Best Direction.
