The “Danger Zone” singer recalls facing an uncertain future with Columbia Records and finding inspiration in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade while creating his seventh solo album
Kenny Loggins, the singer-songwriter behind “Footloose” and “Danger Zone,” has revealed that his 1991 album Leap of Faith was named after a scene from the 1989 film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The musician shared the story during a September 17, 2026, conversation at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, following a screening of his new documentary, Kenny Loggins: Conviction of the Heart.
Loggins recalled that he believed Columbia Records was preparing to drop him when he began working on the album. Facing the possibility that it could be his final opportunity with the label, he decided to focus on writing music that reflected his personal experiences rather than attempting to recreate his earlier commercial success.
The album's title came from the scene in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in which Harrison Ford's character must step onto a bridge he cannot see. Loggins connected that moment to the uncertainty surrounding his own career, viewing the record as an opportunity to move forward despite not knowing what the future would bring.
Released in 1991 through Columbia Records, Leap of Faith became Loggins' seventh solo album and included “Conviction of the Heart,” “The Real Thing,” “If You Believe” and “Now or Never.” The record marked a new period in his songwriting following his divorce from his first wife, Eva Ein.
Loggins discussed the album while promoting his documentary, which premiered at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto on April 27, 2026. Directed by Dori Berinstein, the film explores his career and creative process and is scheduled to open the Long Island Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame Music Documentary Film Festival on September 25, 2026, in Stony Brook, New York.
