The Iron Maiden frontman expanded his career into aviation, developing Cardiff Aviation and exploring airline operations as part of a broader business vision
Bruce Dickinson, widely known as the frontman of Iron Maiden, has built a parallel career far beyond music — one that includes aviation, business development and airline operations.
Through his role as chairman of Cardiff Aviation, a maintenance and training facility based in St Athan, Wales, Dickinson has been actively involved in the aviation industry, focusing on aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), as well as pilot training and operational services.
During a major phase of expansion, Cardiff Aviation explored the creation of a new airline brand operating under an ACMI model (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance), a structure commonly used in the aviation sector to provide flexible aircraft leasing solutions to other airlines.
The project included plans to operate aircraft such as the Boeing 737-400, positioning the company to enter a competitive and highly specialized segment of the aviation market.
At the same time, Cardiff Aviation worked on international partnerships, including involvement in the development of aviation operations linked to Air Djibouti, contributing to efforts aimed at establishing airline infrastructure and services in emerging markets.
Speaking about the expansion, Dickinson emphasized the long-term vision behind the project, highlighting growth through technical expertise, training and strategic partnerships.
While best known for his musical legacy, Dickinson’s work in aviation reflects a broader entrepreneurial mindset, combining passion, discipline and technical knowledge into a career that extends well beyond the stage.
Over the years, his involvement in aviation has included roles as a commercial pilot, aviation entrepreneur and industry advocate, reinforcing his reputation as one of the most multifaceted figures in rock.
Beyond his work with Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson has consistently pursued projects that reflect his interests outside music, with aviation standing as one of the most developed and enduring aspects of his career.
