The Austrian melodic black metal band HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY are releasing their 5th full-length Studio album, "Maere," this February 19th via AOP Records.
Honestly, this record brings you thousands of emotions in different colours and shapes. In my opinion, Black metal always has a light brighter in the dark than other sub-genres in Heavy Metal. However, with HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY, the concept is more profound and broader, like a dark melodic furious atmosphere transcendency to an infinity.
The band marked their footprints in Black Metal years ago, more precisely since 2012, but now they are lighting a new chapter in their genre, where the future is the present, and the dark is merciless but beautiful.
From the band's vicious wall of riffs opener "I, Pallbearer" to"Sing For The Damage We've Done" (Feat Neige of ALCEST) and "And Oceans Between Us," "Maere," is a perfect, seething soundtrack to the chaos we're currently living in.
If you dont know, Maere is a malicious folkloristic entity creeping on sleeping people's chest during the night and causing breathlessness and anxiety. It's precisely this state of diffuse terror and paralysis that has been enshrined in HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY's music ever since their debut album.
As pioneers of the post-movement, mixing haunting black metal with post-rock moments, the Austrians have, ever since their conception in 2011, drawn fans and critics deeper and deeper into their maelstrom of melancholy, self-hate and anger, and even reached #29 of the German charts with their previous release "Arson." And once again, several friends of the band entered the intoxicating world of HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY to guest on "M?re": While Alcest's frontman Neige brings a haunting flair to 'Sing For The Damage We've Done' the anonymous voice of Gaerea joins in on 'Silver Needle // Golden Dawn.' As a session drummer, the band once again committed none less than Kerim "Krimh" Lechner (Septicflesh, live Behemoth) in the studio and Art of Maquenda designed the atmospheric artwork.
